Choreographer Olivier Wevers envisions Shindig as a whimsical voyage through various moods captured in the music and dance.
In each of its various sections, he creates an atmosphere to inspire emotion. Wevers states, “Rather than looking for connections and continuity, I enjoy manipulating familiar and comfortable expectations in order to create contrasts and surprise.”
Designer Leslie Fuhs Allen embraces this vision, creating costumes that are a play on the traditional tutu and tunic. The choreography itself is based on classical technique, with the costumes both reflecting that history and creating a twist on tradition.
Through music, choreography, costuming and lighting, Shindig aims to arouse the senses on multiple levels.
